China Dairies 1 (Job application)

Like I promised, "My China Dairies", let me start from the beginning. I was still working in an MNC when I saw a job opening in my social media, Facebook to be precise. It was a job of teaching English at a University. It sure sounded fancy to me. So, I clicked the link saw the ads and was pretty impressed. Suddenly, I thought to myself, it was either going to be like one of the jobs you want but never really give it a shot or maybe actually do it.

In a split second I decided to do it. I actually filled out the forms although I didn't meet all the requirements. I remember clearly a peer told me once that for a job position one need not fulfill all the requirements sometimes, it's just a way to sift through serious applicants (kind of first level elimination).

Without much thought I kept pursuing a course (TESOL ) which was required for teaching in case one had no prior teaching experience. I wasn't very serious about getting the job but for my own self confidence I decided to enroll.

About 3 weeks later, I got a mail, from the University stating that they would be interested to arrange for a Skype interview  according to the US time zone. My first reaction was, what are they going to ask and for one quick moment there was a surge in my heartbeat as if I had won a battle.

I had been very excited, yet I had very little time juggling my corporate job and trying to read. we finally fixed a time for interview, it was very early in the morning and the interview went on for about 30 minutes.

The interviewer on the other side was kind and she asked me few questions about the subject and thereafter teaching. This was my favorite question, she wanted to know what methods could work best as a teacher because I had no teaching experience. I replied promptly that practice was the best way I can think of as an inexperienced teacher.

She seemed satisfied and we talked about what the work culture is like there and other things that entailed the job. Eventually she wanted me to understand that if selected I would go through training before the students were back from their break.

Thereafter 2/3 weeks later, I received an email confirming that I am offered a position as an English Instructor in the University.

Next up, I will go through the documentation process  for Visa application.
Stay tuned!!
