Delhi, through my eyes- a jugaad

The first thing that comes to me when I think of Delhi is fun , independence , education and yes my very first job . I owe it all to Delhi. That brings me to an important question ; Why is Delhi so irresistible when it has the highest crime rates ?

I think one reason could be that anybody can be a Delhi-ite. What makes it even more attractive is that Delhi do not belong to any one in particular group but has been a home to people from all around the country and sometimes even to expats.

When I first came to Delhi , the word, ‘ Jugaad’ struck me not just a vocab but indeed slowly seeped into my lifestyle. This word in fact impacted me so much that, if I  had to define Delhi in one word; it would be ‘Jugaad’.

The best approach to live in Delhi itself is to be laid back; once you begin accepting the manifold culture of this place, one can actually realize that it actually liberates us. What I mean liberate is to say that one actually starts enjoying the potpourri of different races, culture and nature to live together in harmony.

In some sense people become more liberal in their attitudes. A sort of inter-mingling, then mirrors our social eccentricities  reflecting  our own society through the eyes of other societies.

People come here for different reasons, some with dreams of education and jobs, while others for trade/business  and it is easy to see that it  accommodates  people both with money or without.

If one cannot accept the multitude and the manifold dimensions of life, then Delhi is definitely a harsh place to be. The independence and the education, and jobs all comes with a price.

With Independence comes responsibility, with opportunities comes competition. You meet people with such convictions and then you meet chilled out one. These duality exists simultaneously in every facet of life. For a long time I wasn't sure whether I liked Delhi or I hated it. There was no in between that's when the word 'Jugaad' came to my rescue again.

Seven years my home how I wish I could say more. Although we make do, and get past everything, Delhi I feel is more alive than we think. It may have some of the worst weather, pollution with bad drainage, it makes it bearable thanks to the people. People here struggle together and coexist as if some imaginary sense of community they belong to especially in crucial times.

So we Jugaad together!
